François Malingrëy
b. 1989 in Nancy, France
Lives and works in Paris, France
François Malingrëy likes to create a feeling of strangeness in his works. He likes to cast doubt on our feelings by introducing unusual information that influences the way we understand his works, in order to avoid that we understand them too fast or to easily.
At the age of 18 François Malingrëy was accepted by the Epinal Visual Arts School and later by the Applied Arts School in Strasbourg, France. This training allowed him to start his career as a painter and illustrator.
His paintings sometimes contain an understated violence but his intentions are always overcome by the living, as each of the scenes he creates has a loophole that forbids it from becoming too gloomy. His brushstrokes are warm and we can guess the blood under the skin and the heart beating in his characters, as life is always present in his works. His vision is fresh and innovative.
François Malingrëy is also an illustrator (his drawings have been published in l'Express in 2015à. He has been selected for the Montrouge salon in 2015.
